2020 marks the 70th anniversary of Sidmouth Museum...

In 1950 Miss M Kilgour invited the Sid Vale Association to take over a collection of exhibits for which she had shared responsibility with Miss Leigh Browne and Lady Lockyer.

Opening initially at Woolcombe House (now the town council premises), the SVA then moved the museum to its current premises in Hope Cottage in 1970, and has gradually built up visitor numbers from 5,000 up to now nearly 15,000 each year.

Opened by Miss Mary Kilgour 27th July 1950
